Under an exciting new state law, you can redirect a portion of your Georgia income tax payments to provide scholarship assistance to incoming PCS students! To enable our supporters to take advantage of this program, we are working with the Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program, a state-approved student scholarship organization.

If you pay Georgia taxes, you can receive a tax credit (more than a mere income tax deduction!) against your Georgia income tax liability for amounts donated to GOAL. For married couples filing a joint return, the maximum tax credit-eligible contribution is $2,500 ($1,000 as an individual). The best part is that you are not affecting your budget in any way; you are donating money to GOAL (designated for use at PCS) that you were going to give to the state government in taxes anyway!

To ensure approval of your intended contribution in time to secure a 2008 Georgia income tax credit, you must take the first step listed below and file the Form IT-QEE-TP1 by November 14, 2008. Until you receive your approval from the DOR, no payment is required.

Do you run or own a business?

Corporations can receive a tax credit for amounts contributed to the GOAL Scholarship Program up to 75 percent of their Georgia income tax liability. Presently, this tax credit is only fully available to "C" corporations. Unfortunately, shareholders of S corporations and members of LLCs and LLPs are subject to the individual tax credit limitations.

How are the funds used?

The GOAL Scholarship Program uses the PCS-designated contributions to fund K-8 scholarships for public school children who desire to attend PCS. The scholarships are also available for qualified students who are eligible to enter kindergarten. Each year, PCS uses its regular admission and financial aid processes to determine those students who are eligible to receive GOAL scholarships and submits the scholarship candidates and amounts to GOAL for final approval.

How does this work?

Just follow these simple steps and don't hesitate to call if you need help or clarification:
  • Complete the IT-QEE-TP1 form and return it to PCS. We will mail it to the Department of Revenue ("DOR") on your behalf, and we have already completed some of the information to make it easier for you. If you want to mail it in yourself, please ensure PCS gets a copy before you mail it. This pre-approved form allows the DOR to make sure that the annual state-wide $50 million cap on these available tax credits has not been exceeded.
  • In 30 days or less you will get a form back from the Georgia Department of Revenue approving your contribution.
  • You then have 30 days to write your check to Georgia GOAL Scholarship Program Inc. and designate Perimeter Christian School in the memo section of the check. You can mail the check to Stacey Earnest, Financial Secretary and we will make sure that it gets to GOAL.
  • When you complete your taxes early next year, you get a direct credit against your Georgia income taxes for the amount of your contribution, AND you get a charitable tax deduction on your federal taxes as well if you normally itemize deductions. You get your money back for the donation because your Georgia taxes are reduced by the same amount!
  • GOAL will send you an acknowledgement form (IT-QEE-SS01) which you will send along with the approved IT-QEE-TP1 form when you file your tax return.

In the end, you will have spent no extra money at all, but you will have helped PCS build a scholarship fund for new students, and you will get an extra federal tax deduction!
