Meet Coach Mulrennan

I am excited and honored to be part of the Perimeter School staff. I believe that all children want to learn and can love learning when provided with the right environment. From what I've read and observed, Perimeter School provides the atmosphere that enables children to flourish in both the classroom and the athletic fields. I look forward to continuing that philosophy and contributing to the spiritual, academic, and athletic growth of the students.

As Athletic Director, I will plan that our students experience a positive athletic environment where individual needs and abilities are addressed. Physical fitness and sports related activities should be fun and safe for everyone. Regardless of ability, our students will benefit from the physical education curriculum with a greater awareness of mind and body interaction.

I think it's great that our middle school students have the opportunity to compete with students from other schools. Learning to compete vigorously and graciously in sports can assist in character development and carry over to other aspects of life. Perimeter is fortunate to have skilled coaches and mentors for all of our athletic teams. All of our sports teams will have my full support, encouragement, and enthusiasm.  I personally will be helping with the coaching duties in cross country, basketball, and track & field. I must say my specialty and favorite sport is track & field. I have competed at the high school and college level and coached at Duluth High School and Middle School for seven years. I love how track & field encompasses the pure athletic skills of running, jumping, and throwing. Some of the earliest recorded athletic events are that of the ancient Greeks competing in track & field events in the Olympics. Jim Thorpe epitomizes the track & field athlete. " You sir, are the greatest athlete in the world. "- said King Gustav of Sweden to Jim Thorpe after he won both the pentathlon and decathlon in the 1912 Olympic games. My objective is not to train the next "greatest athlete in the world", yet to inspire students to reach their maximum potential by striving for their own personal records or pr as I call it. Shaving a half second off a 200 meter run or long jumping 2 inches better the next week can be rewarding and will carry over to the student looking to improve themselves in other aspects of life.

After growing up in Bristol, TN and Rome, GA, I later graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in industrial management. Immediately after graduation, I served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps for three years. I was an infantry platoon commander and part of a marine amphibious unit in the Mediterranean Sea. I am grateful to have served for this great country of ours and to have served with some loyal courageous leaders.

My nine years teaching experince has covered eighth grade math and sixth - eighth grade PE at Duluth Middle School. While teaching at Duluth, I acquired a masters in education degree from Georgia State. I have also owned my own business and have been President of that business for ten years.

I am very active at Buckhead Church including weekly Bible study and regular volunteer activities. One of my most rewarding experiences is the mission trip to Indonesia I participated in through the church. One of my goals is to become involved at Perimeter Church as well.

I look forward to working productively with the parents and staff so we all can provide an environment where children seek out knowledge and wonder in life.
