Alumni Spotlight: Lindsay King

we wanted to be part of the body of Christ that carries burdens and spurs one another on.

By: Lindsay king, Perimeter School alum

We recently caught up with several of our Perimeter School alumni, and we are excited to share with you how Perimeter School has influenced their stories and how God is using them for kingdom impact.

Our next alumni spotlight is Lindsay King.

WHAT DO YOU DO? WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

I started at Perimeter School the year the school moved into the new building. My older brothers and I all attended 1st-8th grade here (one of them is also a fellow school parent). I've been married to Tony for 13 years, and we have three kids: Ella (1st grade), Tucker (5), and Riley (3), plus two dogs. I’m currently the King Household manager and would consider myself a novice at it after 7 years. We live right down the road in Johns Creek, which would blow young Lindsey's mind, but it's been such a blessing. We have a tiny but mighty neighborhood full of wonderful Perimeter Church and School families.

HOW DID YOUR TIME AT PERIMETER SCHOOL INFLUENCE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU DO TODAY?

Friends I graduated with here often talk about how competitive our grade was. While that might not always come off as a good thing, it ended up helping me throughout my academic years to follow after graduation. Academics never came easily to me. (I blame my oldest brother, Evan, for taking all the smart genes.) Playing sports at Perimeter School taught me to work as a team, push toward a goal, and celebrate with others when you reached it. It also made my transition into a public high school smoother because I could join multiple teams and get to know people already established in the public school system. In college, it helped me get a job with a fellow Perimeter School grad with the intramural program at Georgia College & State University, and that's where I got plugged into Campus Outreach and met Tony.

"IF IT WEREN'T FOR PERIMETER SCHOOL, I WOULDN'T KNOW . . .”

I wouldn't be comfortable with public speaking. From the poetry recitals to reading aloud in class, Perimeter School set me on a path toward a public speaking centered college major. It’s given me confidence that speaking in front of people no matter what the situation is, won’t be the end of the world.

Perimeter also exposed me to lots of different art throughout my time there, and it carried into high school where it connected me to a different crowd of people I got to know and love.

It's also given me lifelong friends. I'm still in touch with many people from my Perimeter School years. Some moved away and moved back which makes for sweet reunions and deepened friendships over shared memories. Several of the guys I went to Perimeter School with are now good friends with Tony and were at our wedding. Tony's even in a discipleship group with two of my fellow graduates' husbands, giving our family a whole new way to do life together!

IN WHAT WAYS IS THE WORK YOU ARE DOING NOW SPIRITUALLY AND CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT?

We’re just trying to raise our kids to be kind, compassionate people who follow the Lord. Since I'm not in the workplace, being the primary caregiver has been my main focus these past few years. Getting involved at the school has given me a new outlet, a chance to let the Lord sanctify me and to help shepherd my kids' hearts alongside others. It's been sweet getting to know other kids in the classroom and around campus after school. Serving them, and letting the Lord shine through me even in my imperfections, has opened my eyes to how much hard work so many parents put in before me.

IN WHAT WAYS IS PERIMETER SCHOOL STILL IMPACTING YOUR FAMILY TODAY?

Through the Covenant family. I didn't fully grasp the impact as a kid, but looking back, I can see how it worked. I still see some of the same parents who poured into me back then, and I love that I can still glean wisdom from them. As an adult, before I had kids of my own, I watched how those from the school surrounded each other during hard seasons of life. That's the main reason we chose Perimeter School for our own kids: we wanted to be part of the body of Christ that carries burdens and spurs one another on.
