Alumni Spotlight: John and Lindsay Putnam

Perimeter School has truly been the fourth wall of our family

By: John and Lindsay Putnam, Perimeter School alums

We recently caught up with several of our Perimeter School alumni, and we are excited to share with you how Perimeter School has influenced their stories and how God is using them for kingdom impact.

Our next alumni spotlight is John and Lindsay Putnam.

WHAT DO YOU DO? WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

We live in and love Birmingham, Alabama! We’ve been here since 2012. We’ve planted deep roots in a church family we love and a covenant, Christian school very similar to Perimeter School. John works for JB Hunt as a Director of Sales. Lindsay has newly stepped into the role of lower school assistant principal at our school, Westminster School at Oak Mountain. We have three children - Noah is in fourth grade, Luke is in second grade, and Emma is in kindergarten.

HOW DID YOUR TIME AT PERIMETER SCHOOL INFLUENCE WHO YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU DO TODAY?

Perimeter School helped build a foundation of Christian education and a biblical worldview. While we might not have adequately appreciated it then, we are deeply grateful for it looking back. And now as parents, we desire the same for our own children.

"IF IT WEREN'T FOR PERIMETER SCHOOL, I WOULDN'T KNOW . . .”

Each other! We attended Perimeter School together. We also would have missed out on the priceless gift of a like-minded covenant family that have become our tribe, our people, and some of our dearest friends. It’s also been extra special to be part of a similar school community here in Birmingham with other Perimeter School graduates, Avery (Mann) Baxter and her family and Emily (Hart) Kirkpatrick and her family - especially having all these Perimeter School parents now as Westminster grandparents!

IN WHAT WAYS IS THE WORK YOU ARE DOING NOW SPIRITUALLY AND CULTURALLY SIGNIFICANT?

Now serving as lower school assistant principal, Lindsay is working alongside teachers and parents to build Christ’s kingdom by equipping students with wisdom, virtue, and eloquence. We too long for each student to be seen, known, loved, and pursued as they grow as image-bearers to love God and show His love to others. Along with living out the gospel through his interactions at work, John also serves as the middle school basketball coach and varsity golf coach at Westminster. He is training and developing young men who love strongly, compete fiercely and work diligently while prioritizing the growth of Christ’s Kingdom through sports.

IN WHAT WAYS IS PERIMETER SCHOOL STILL IMPACTING YOUR FAMILY TODAY?

There has been a Jernigan family member at Perimeter School for over 30 consecutive years now! Lindsay and her brothers completed 1st through 8th grade as Perimeter School students; Lindsay then taught 6th grade at Perimeter School before moving to Alabama; Lindsay’s mom (Rhonda Jernigan) taught kindergarten for 11 years and now serves as the elementary receptionist. Perimeter School has truly been the fourth wall of our family!
