Wherever You Are, Be All There

What could be a better gift for you and your family?

Advent is a celebration of Christ's coming into the world, God becoming flesh! What a gift to us - He was and is fully present with us.

I realize the Advent season can sometimes feel like one more item on the checklist for you and your family. I know my family can treat the season that way. But when Advent becomes a checklist item, we minimize the impact of the amazing event in which God humbled Himself and entered our world as a vulnerable baby.

Have you ever wondered why God chose to be vulnerable and susceptible to sickness, pain, and betrayal? We aren’t privy to all of God’s reasons, but we do know that “because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” (Hebrews 2:18)

Since we are created in His image, let’s use this Advent season to also be present with our families and friends – like God is with us. As the famous missionary Jim Elliot said, “wherever you are, be all there!”

Our schedules and lifestyles often hinder us from being truly present, but let’s set aside some quiet, undistracted reflection time this season. What could be a better gift for you and your family?

Merry Christmas!
