Mission Complete
a solid foundation of spiritual formation
By: Brendon O’Dowd, head of school
At this year’s final campus meeting, I talked about the importance of being “mission complete.” This goal is not just for military members; it is just as applicable for schools and families. I also mentioned that my wife and I have “successfully” helped our five children graduate from college. While that may be admirable, I know that my mission is not complete because I am called to something much more important - continued discipleship. I want my children (and the school’s children) to pursue being a disciple who thinks biblically and lives redemptively.
Successful discipleship is built upon a solid foundation of spiritual formation. Let me briefly highlight three character traits that I feel are being neglected in today’s culture: service, hard work, and fortitude. I worry that our culture is too focused on “what’s in it for me.” Serving like Jesus served (Mark 10:45) must be at the forefront of who we are as disciples. That leads to the second trait, hard work. Serving others is not easy. In fact, it is often messy and costly. We need to work hard because we ultimately are serving our Lord (Colossians 3:23-24). Finally, working hard at serving requires fortitude.
Let’s work together to help prepare our children for the road by teaching them to be comfortable with being uncomfortable!
Lost children need their Savior.
