Kingdom Impact in Tanzania

“I’m so thankful I witnessed firsthand what God is doing across the nations.”

By: Perimeter School Alumni

Several times a year here at Perimeter School, our students “dress down” with a $3 donation to our school’s missions fund. Through this fund, we partner with and support schools in Tanzania and Guatemala. Seeds planted through years of dress down days have been faithfully watered by the Lord, growing into a desire among some of our former students to do more - to go to Tanzania to share the gospel and build relationships with the people there.

Hear from Dave Burgess, President of UBORA, Perimeter Church and Perimeter School’s ministry partner to Tanzania:

“In nearly two decades of faithful service as the hands and feet of Jesus, Perimeter School students have played a key role in transforming the village of Karansi and a generation of their Tanzanian counterparts, even as their own faith walks have been deepened along the way. UBORA is grateful for the unique partnership and opportunity to witness the power of the gospel together with our awesome students!”

Hear from Perimeter School alumni as they reflect on how their time in Tanzania shaped their faith, perspective, and purpose:

“Serving in Tanzania has forever changed my life in more ways than I could have imagined. The trip impacted me deeply as I witnessed people who had nothing still praising the Lord with overflowing joy. I realized I had everything by worldly standards, but I wasn’t surrendering my life to Christ. That trip revealed my need for a personal faith, not just my parents’ faith, and transformed my identity in Christ. One of my favorite memories was playing tag with the preschoolers. Their joy was contagious. I also visited a school for children with disabilities called Faraja, where we played basketball and soccer and ran around with the kids. We even did community service in a local village, which led to a gospel conversation with curious villagers. Now, in college, I’m thankful to have witnessed firsthand what God is doing across the nations. I’m in awe of our God and how He is transforming lives through UBORA.”

“Tanzania has impacted my life in many ways. I’ve visited three times, and every trip reminds me how much joy exists in Karansi, even amidst poverty. I went thinking I was going to help others, but they ended up helping me understand Jesus’ love and provision more deeply. I loved meeting people from another culture and seeing God at work in them. These mission trips have shaped my walk with Christ, and I encourage others to go as well.”
— Cambelle Burgess

“I heard about the Tanzania mission trip through family and friends and was thrilled when I finally got the chance to go. It was a life-changing experience. Leading VBS and bringing joy to the children of Tanzania was such a blessing. Even more powerful was being blessed by their joy despite difficult circumstances. God worked in incredible ways, and His light shone through the Tanzanian people. I hope everyone who feels called to go will take the opportunity.”

“I traveled to Tanzania in the summer of 2023 after encouragement from my mom and older brother. Going was one of the best decisions of my life. It changed my perspective completely. The children there were always smiling, even though their living conditions are nothing like ours in the U.S. They are happier and, I believe, have a stronger faith than many people here. Their joy reminded me how much we take for granted and how good our God truly is.”

“I had always wanted to meet my sponsor child after years of exchanging letters. I also wanted to see what Tanzania was like and how God might use me. My role was to share the story of David and how he served God as king. I got to present the gospel in a storytelling format. The trip made me so thankful for what I’ve been given, and I’ve become more mindful not to take anything for granted. I've learned to trust God more and lean on Him in every situation. If you're considering a mission trip, do it. Go with an open heart and mind, and you’ll be amazed at how the Lord works.”
— Evan DeHart

“I decided to go to Tanzania with my best friend Kacey, who had already been and shared how much it meant to her. Our trip was incredible. We helped run a VBS for the children and experienced the joy of God's faithfulness. Through it all, the Lord taught me how to rely on Him and find contentment in any circumstance. I’m so thankful for the opportunity and highly recommend it to anyone who is considering going.”

“I’ve gone to Tanzania twice for the summer VBS trip. I was drawn to the ministry through my family, especially my dad’s involvement, and by watching my sisters go. During the trip, we danced, worshiped, played games, did crafts and sports, and prayed with hundreds of children. The joy they spread was a living testimony that money doesn’t buy happiness. Their love and joy are rooted in Christ, not in anything this broken world can offer. These trips changed my life and showed me a love and joy I now try to pass on here at home.”
— Will Burgess

“I went on the Tanzania mission trip thanks to my seventh grade teacher, who was actively involved in the ministry, and a few of my best friends. My favorite memories include singing songs with the kids and helping serve meals during school breaks when they otherwise wouldn’t have food. I loved every moment of my trips to Tanzania and would recommend the experience to everyone.”
